<p>Well I got a pleasant surprise today when UPS delivered the 2nd part of my Zombicide Kickstarter that I backed late last year.  To Be honest I had forgot all about it and didn&#8217;t even read the email from Coolminiornot saying it was coming.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m glad they used Battlefoam in the UK though as wasnt impressed by the import duty I got clobbered with when I received the original set.</p>
<p>The set includes Zomb&#8217;Ivor Dave, Zomb&#8217;Ivor El Cholo, Zomb&#8217;Ivor Nick, Eagle Chaz (Chuck Norris) in Zombi&#8217;Ivor and Survivor as well as Troy The Traveller and The Cardboard Tube Samurai in both versions.</p>
<p>The artwork looks amazing and really well packaged considering these were extras/rewards.  They all come with cards to use the versions and I will be painting them up after my current commission is finished I think.</p>
<p>Anyway here are two pictures</p>

<p>After ordering the limited edition resin figure from Raining Frogs Garage (Probably one of the most uniquely named miniature blogs I have come across) The Barbarian Dude has finally arrived.  I managed to snaffle the 278th cast out of 350 (2nd run) and the figure is absolutely spot on.  With only a few mould lines which should be easy enough to clear and one very small hole in the loin cloth I cant wait to paint him up.</p>
<p>Sculpted by Emanuele G its a very faithful reproduction of the original artwork by Simon Bisley and sits around 32mm tall so well within my comfort zone for painting.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to clean him up this week and then plan a paint scheme for him.  Probably paint him as realistic as possible but there are a few versions appearing that have really appealed to me.</p>
<p>Anyway here is my picture of the Barbarian Dude and the original finished shots direct from Raining Frogs Garage&#8230;&#8230;</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Work in progress still continues well with the Minotaurs chapter master Asterion Moloc.  I have finished the front of the shield now and I&#8217;m quite happy with the way it turned out.  I have tried to split the colours of the shield with white as suggested by one of my blog followers and his advice paid off.  I also tried to do some sort of flame style power weapon with various colours if reds, oranges and yellows up to white.  I can do a tutorial if anyone would like me to?</p>
<p>I have a little work to do on his boot as had to remove the grips as they were pretty badly sculpted and replaced it with a slightly better sculpted sole.</p>
<p>I still have to work on his cloak and I&#8217;m aiming to do a similar but smaller pattern like the inside of his shield in creams and browns.  I haven&#8217;t decided on what will be on the back of his red cloak yet but keep searching the internet for inspiration.</p>
<p>For the base I&#8217;m looking for him to be standing on a Necron warrior that he has just speared with his weapon so I&#8217;m keeping an eye on eBay for the right (cheap) part. As always I welcome comments&#8230;..</p>

I still have the wreath and middle gem in between it to paint and some highlights on the black horns. Some of the gold work will need touching up after I filled it with a white stone like colour (or that&#8217;s what I was aiming for) Thanks to RussDe for suggesting I break up the contrasts on thew shield as before there was just too much bronze. Aiming to do a lot of gem work on the miniature as he is the chapter master and for once I&#8217;m not rushing this miniature.</p>
<p>Still haven&#8217;t worked on the back of the shield yet but going to attempt some sort of freehand to jazz it up a bit, although it may go wrong and just get painted black.</p>
<p>Here are the most recent pictures from Asterion himself and his shield.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/asterion-moloc-wip2.jpg" rel="lightbox[1731]"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1726" alt="asterion-moloc-wip2" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/asterion-moloc-wip2-760x1024.jpg" width="500" height="674" /></a></p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Still not sure about the spear white stone but going to work on this a bit more and may change to marble or something&#8230;</p>
<p>Comments and crits always welcome<br />

<p>I have decided if I will paint anymore minotaurs yet but I do have Scibor spartan shields and the grey knight kit ready and waiting to customise some regular terminators if I do.  Got a lot more single miniatures to paint before working on any squads even if they are just 5 man terminator squads but we will see.  I also feel the Space wolves bug coming back as Black Library are releasing some more books&#8230;</p>
<p>Also on my little Instagram photo you will see I&#8217;m still painting my sedition wars box set from Studio McVey.  I took a little break to prevent me rushing and becoming bored.  I&#8217;m also still working on the Empire bounty hunter featured in a post last week.  I have finished sculpting the giants severed head and just making sure the miniature is nice and tidy before undercoating this time.</p>

<h1>Sedition Wars &#8211; Battle for Alabaster Painting Diary</h1>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>After a few requests I thought I would share the WIP of my Battle for Alabaster project.  I have got halfway through the strain models and having great fun experimenting on them since they will only be tabletop I haven&#8217;t gone too made on detail etc.  So far I have finished the <a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/2013/02/05/sedition-wars-bfa-exo-form-stalker-painting-tutorial">Exo-form Stalkers which I have done a tutorial</a> on if you want to follow it.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-finished-group1.jpg" rel="lightbox[1604]"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1592" alt="exo-form-stalker-finished-group1" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-finished-group1-1024x297.jpg" width="550" height="159" /></a></p>
<p>Last week I finished the Exo-form Quasimodo&#8217;s using a similar paint recipe.<br />
<a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/sedition-wars-quasimodo.jpg" rel="lightbox[1604]"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1605" alt="sedition wars quasimodo" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/sedition-wars-quasimodo-1024x644.jpg" width="550" height="345" /></a></p>
<p>Today I am just putting the finishing touches to the Necro-form Revenant group which I have painted using GW inks in various shades.  I uses washes of blues, greens, reds and purples in various consistencies to cover the models from a white undercoat and just played around the colours as each stage dried.  The blood was a mix of red gore and dark flesh with a futher red wash and then gloss varnish.  The orange trousers are the same recipe as the <a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/2013/02/05/sedition-wars-bfa-exo-form-stalker-painting-tutorial">Stalkers tutorial</a>.  The blue trousers are P3 Trollblood base with a wash of GW Drakenof Nightshade.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/sedition-wars-revenant.jpg" rel="lightbox[1604]"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1606" alt="sedition-wars-revenant" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/sedition-wars-revenant-1024x735.jpg" width="550" height="394" /></a><br />
<a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/sedition-wars-revenant1.jpg" rel="lightbox[1604]"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1607" alt="sedition-wars-revenant1" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/sedition-wars-revenant1-1024x606.jpg" width="550" height="325" /></a></p>
<p>I will carry on this little diary of my tabletop paint job on Sedition Wars Battle for Alabaster when I have started on the next part of the strain.</p>

<h1>Exo-form Stalker Painting Tutorial</h1>
<p>Painting tutorial for the Sedition Wars Strain Model.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Step 1</strong></span></p>
<p>Before you start undercoating make sure you use a sharp craft knife to clean off as much of the flash details and mould lines as possible.  I used a small file to try and get smooth results.  I superglued the model to one of the bases and undercoated with Skull White spray from Games Workshop.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-undercoated.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1586" alt="exo-form-stalker-undercoated" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-undercoated-796x1024.jpg" width="350" height="449" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Step 2</strong></span></p>
<p>Next I mixed up GW Cadian Fleshtone 70% and Emperors Children 30% and added 30% water to make it a nice watery mix.  I then painted the whole miniature with one coat and waited it to dry and then followed it by one more coat.  You want to make sure the white undercoat still shows through slightly.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-basecoat1.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1578" alt="exo-form-stalker-basecoat1" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-basecoat1.jpg" width="350" height="453" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Step 3</strong></span></p>
<p>I then washed over the whole miniature with a watered down GW Carroburg Crimson &#8211; I went for a 50/50 mix as didn&#8217;t want to colour the base coat too much.  The wash was mainly to define the muscles and other weird bits.  After the wash was dry I painted the guts and exposed muscles with GW Wazdakka Red and washed with pure GW Carroburg Crimson.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-basecoat2.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1579" alt="exo-form-stalker-basecoat2" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-basecoat2.jpg" width="350" height="493" /></a></p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Step 4</span></strong></p>
<p>Use the base mix to then create a highlight mix by adding GW Pallid Wych Flesh and highlight the main areas at the tops of arms.  I then filled in the metal areas of the miniature with GW Ironbreaker metallic paint. You could also use GW Chainmail.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-metals.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1582" alt="exo-form-stalker-metals" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-metals.jpg" width="350" height="420" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Step 5</strong></span></p>
<p>OK so the metals have dried and now its time to shade them.  I used GW Nuln oil or GW Badab Black to shade all the metal work, careful not to stray onto the flesh you have already painted.  I then re-highlighed the metallics with chainmail and a extreme highlight of GW Mithril Silver.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-metals-shaded.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1583" alt="exo-form-stalker-metals-shaded" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-metals-shaded.jpg" width="350" height="492" /></a> <a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-metals-shaded-back.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1584" alt="exo-form-stalker-metals-shaded-back" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-metals-shaded-back.jpg" width="350" height="471" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Step 6<br />
</strong></span></p>
<p>Next I started to add more colour to the miniature around where the metal meets the flesh.  I used P3 Sanguinne base and GW Regal Blue in various forms to create dark reds and purples and glazed over the metal/skin areas. I deepened the existing muscle and gaps where I thought the needed it.  because its just tabletop standard I didn&#8217;t go too mad or keep to amazing details but just try to make it look sickly and diseased.  I painted the trousers with a 50/50 Mix of GW Graveyard Earth and GW Desert Yellow with a hint of bleached bone.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-trousers.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1585" alt="exo-form-stalker-trousers" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-trousers.jpg" width="350" height="432" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Step 7</strong></span></p>
<p>I darked the trouser recesses with GW Devlun Mud and highlighted with the base mix with additional GW Skull white.  I painted the stitches with GW Desert Yellow and then washed with GW Reikland Fleshshade.  I painted the green eyes with a base of GW Caliban Green and then Highlighted up to GW Scorpion Green.  The teeth were GW Dheneb Stone with a GW Devlun Mud wash.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-details.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1580" alt="exo-form-stalker-details" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-details.jpg" width="350" height="482" /></a> <a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-details-back.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1581" alt="exo-form-stalker-details-back" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-details-back.jpg" width="350" height="467" /></a></p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Step 8</strong></span></p>
<p>The final step is to paint the base with GW Boltgun Metal.  Wash with GW Nuln Oil or Badab Black.  Then another wash of GW Devlun Mud.  I then used <a href="http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&amp;cPath=37_19">Secret Weapon pigments</a> of Rust Brown &amp; Rust Orange mixed with 80% water and washed over the base.  A little highlight of drybrushed chainmail to finish it off.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-finished-front.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1591" title="Sedition Wars exo-form stalker" alt="exo-form-stalker-finished-front" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-finished-front.jpg" width="350" height="351" /></a> <a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-finished-back.jpg" rel="lightbox[1577]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-1590" title="Sedition Wars exo-form stalker" alt="exo-form-stalker-finished-back" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/exo-form-stalker-finished-back.jpg" width="350" height="333" /></a></p>

<h1>The Plaguebringer</h1>
<p>The Plaguebringer by maximinis that I have been painting for a commission is finally finished after working on the blood and extra rust of the armour today.  The blood was great fun and I did it by mixing UHU glue with Tamiya clear red and some of the GW black and red washes from their old range.</p>
<p>The skin colours have been covered in a previous WIP but please just as if you require them again and I will certainly post them up.</p>
<p>Tried another type of photographing tonight but I seem to end up with the same over exposed results.  Well anyway enough of me ranting.  Here is the final finished Plaguebringer.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.tartanpaint.info/2013/01/20/the-plaguebringer-is-finished/plaguebringer-front-back-final/" rel="attachment wp-att-1562"><img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1562" alt="Maximini Plaguebringer of Nurgle in Resin" src="http://www.tartanpaint.info/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/plaguebringer-front-back-final-528x1024.jpg" width="528" height="1024" /></a></p>
<p>Please feel free to comment below. He will go on CMON tonight and no doubt get a poor score.</p>
